Will Romania recognize Kosovo’s independence?
Romania has always been a friend for Serbia. So now, that Kosovo declared the independence, I am really curious about the reaction of Romanian authorities. Will it be hard for our exterior minister Adrian Cioroianu to make another mistake and to congratulate already Hashim Thaci for the newly proclaimed independence before seeing what the reaction of other nations is? I am ready to make a bet that he will make a mistake here. We are getting so used to it!
From our point of view Kosovo will be like Transnistria for Moldova. Self proclaimed and recognized only by Russia but with international image problems. Even if the new state is to have the support of some western democracies, that will not be enough. Romania must really choose her next step carefully here. Is about the long friendship with Serbia.
Doesn’t matter in United States or England will recognize the new state. What is matter is that our move to be really thoughtful.

Sorry, Abaddon, english only on english posts. See “Rules”. C’mon, I know you can
It seems that Romania (The government supported in this decision by all the other parties)is determined NOT to recognize this country, even if UDMR is putting pressure on the government. I don’t think that it’s about the friendship with Serbia but about the precedent that is created and that could become very dangerous for countries like Spain, Romania, Cyprus or Greece.
Well, Romania refused today to recognize the self proclamed state. Seems that this time they did the right thing.
Grave manipulation
A so-called commentary published today by Stratfor (badly written and conflicting, with bad sourcing as well) claimed that ethnic Hungarians (Szeklers) in Romania are contemplating pursuing independence on the Kosovo model. The “commentary” quoted unconfirmed media reports from Romania. What happened next was that it became a self-fulfilling prophecy (or gross manipulation?)when Romanian media reported about a “Stratfor commentary” about how ethnic Hungarians want independence (http://www.hotnews.ro/stiri-esential-2398760-analiza-stratfor-posibila-miscare-transnationala-maghiarilor-din-europa-est.htm)
It now goes round in circles as Romanian media will quote Stratfor, the same way Stratfor quoted the Romanian media. Typical disinformation.
Romanian media is and has always been a little confused when coming to this sort of news. This sort of news is generating rating points because romanians in Transylvania always keept an eye on the so called “separatist” movements in that area.
The point is, it is being started from the outside. There is no trace of the initial reports Stratfor quotes.
